RCS Parent Update- March 27, 2020

The county and municipal governments of Rutherford County executed a Joint Supplemental Proclamation of a State of Emergency this morning that includes a local stay-at-home order, effective from 6:00 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2020, through 6:00 AM on Friday, April 17, 2020. Late this afternoon, Governor Roy Cooper announced Executive Order No. 121 that includes a statewide stay-at-home order, which begins at 5:00 PM on Monday, March 30, 2020, and remains in effect for thirty (30) days unless repealed, replaced, or rescinded by another applicable Executive Order. In anticipation of questions you may have, RCS wants to provide guidance about the application of the local Proclamation and statewide Executive Order to Rutherford County Schools' remote learning, food service, and student support programs.

RCS K-2 iPads Available for Home Use

Beginning Monday, March 30, 2020, Rutherford County Schools is pleased to provide iPads to students who are enrolled in grades K-2 upon the request of their parents or guardians. These optional devices are not intended to replace instructional packets for remote learning, but they will provide additional resources and opportunities for families who choose to supplement their children’s remote learning.

Important Notice | Public Closure of All RCS Facilities

In conjunction with ongoing efforts to promote good public health and reduce the risk of illness, all Rutherford County Schools facilities are closed to visitors and other members of the general public, beginning Friday, March 20, 2020 and continuing until further notice. Though this facility is closed, school personnel remain happy to assist you by phone.

RCS School Meal Service During School Closure

RCS will offer school nutrition services for all Rutherford County children ages 0-18 during the school closure. Drive-thru pick-ups will be available at each school beginning March 17 from 10am-1pm.

RCS School Community Health Update | 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Rutherford County Schools values and promotes the health and wellness of students, employees, and our broader community. School officials are carefully monitoring news and information regarding the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCov), as well as confirmed cases of related illness both nationally and internationally. Rutherford County Schools closely follows guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from the Division of Public Health at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and from local public health officials in order to reduce or prevent the spread of this and other illnesses, including the common cold and influenza, within the school environment.
